Playing in the Dirt: Let's Grow a Plant

A week ago my students placed some beans, mustard seeds, and green peas on a moist paper towel, placed it inside a ziploc bag and then we put it in a dark cabinet to discover if seeds need light to grow. Every other day they pulled them out and made observations in their ISN's. Today after a week they planted the seedlings in soil. For the next few weeks they will observe and collect data on their plants, finally planting them outside in one of our garden areas. This is a quick daily activity that culminates with a plant and students get really excited to collect data and keep track of their plants even next year in 8th grade they venture by the garden to check on them.
